We had a customer come in and ask us what we thought the best multi-day hiking trips in the Nelson Tasman region were. After much debate between the team we came up with these three must do hiking trips.
- The Abel Tasman Coastal Track. It goes without saying that the Abel Tasman would be at the top of any list like this, World class beaches around every corner and relaxed terrain make it a must do hike for everyone interested in the outdoors. For experienced hikers its a walk in the park, for newer hikers its a great first multi-day trip. Pro tip: visit during the winter months to avoid the crowds.
- Travers Sabine circuit. This gnarly track is best done in Summer due to the avalanche risk. From the stunning moss covered valley floor to the rocky mountain tops this track is jam-packed with views. Travers Saddle is only really exposed part of the trip involving a sharp ascent and descent on either side. Pro tip: Add an extra day and visit the world famous Blue Lake.
- The Heaphy Track. Without a doubt this is the hike that offers the most varied terrain in New Zealand. Think tussock covered downs, goblin forests and the awe inspiring beaches all in one day. Pro tip: Spend a night at Gouland Downs hut to spot kiwi and Takahe!
